We are seeking a volunteer to work on diverse development and communications projects. In this position, you are charged with helping our agency develop and retain relationships with its most valuable asset: PEOPLE. This position is supervised by our VIVA! Program Manager.
Essential Duties:
- Write monthly e-newsletter articles in alignment with the organization’s mission and highlighting the VIVA! program’s achievements and need for support.
- Reviewing documents and summarizing
- Typing up information from various sources
- Gathering online information, providing a list of links, etc.
Job Requirements
- Interpersonal: Ability to build appropriate rapport; build constructive and effective relationships; use diplomacy and tact
- Organizational Skills: Organizes for maximum efficiency; ability to use intuition, education, and life experience to assist the team
- Writing Skills: Solid reporting and journalism skills; Meticulously and thoroughly able to gather facts and information; strong written skills in transferring interviews/notes to narrative formats
- Results/Outcome Oriented: Motivated by results; able to multitask; demonstrates initiative and the ability to be flexible and creative; expected to meet and exceed goals.
- Team Player: Ability to work well with a diverse staff; comfortable and respectful working with people with developmental disabilities.
- Must pass all background checks and complete all trainings.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel throughout Fairfax County.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Intern should currently be pursuing a Bachelor or Master’s degree.
- Basic familiarity with computers. Knowledge of Word and Publisher preferred.

Description
When you join our volunteer team, you will receive training, supervision, diverse educational experiences, and opportunities for personal growth. Various positions are available throughout Fairfax County and the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church. The times and days available are flexible and include some evening and weekend opportunities, as well as regular weekday hours. By providing direct service, administrative support, or participating in special projects, volunteers are valuable members of our team.
