Due to the currently COVID-19 crisis, Exceptional Care for Children (ECC) is unable to allow volunteers and visitors into the building.

ECC currently has virtual volunteer opportunities ...

  1. Volunteers can create children's book read aloud videos and submit via email to eholcombe@exceptionalcare.org. Seasonal/Holiday or general children's books are preferred. Books should be suitable for children aged 2-8 years old and should not exceed 10 minutes in length. Please be sure to show the pictures! These videos are uploaded to our internal network, for the kiddos to access and watch at any time. For those needing service hours, each Read Aloud is worth 2 volunteer hours.
  2. Volunteers can make music recordings/videos and submit via email to eholcombe@exceptionalcare.org. The kiddos of ECC love pop music and nursery rhymes, but all music styles are welcome as long as it is suitable for children. These videos are uploaded to our internal network, for the kiddos to access and watch at any time. For those needing service hours, each Music Recording is worth 3 hours per song (factoring in practice time, editing, etc.).
  3. Volunteers can teach the kids a new skill by creating a how to video and submitting via email to eholcombe@exceptionalcare.org. "How To" videos can range from teaching a child to their shoes, making slime, an arts & crafts project, playing a video game and more. These videos are uploaded to our internal network, for the kiddos to access and watch at any time. At times, our Play Therapy team will help the kiddos recreate in real life, what you teach them! For those needing service hours, each How To video is worth 3 hours (factoring in gathering supplies, practice, editing, etc.).
*All submissions will be screened to ensure they are appropriate for children and are religious/politically neutral.

SERVICE HOURS - If you are in need of service hours, please track your own hours (date(s), submission(s), hours) and email to Emily Holcombe eholcombe@exceptionalcare.org. A service letter will be provided to you on our organizational letterhead. Please allow at least 2 weeks for processing time.

About Exceptional Care for Children

Location:

Mission Statement

Exceptional Care for Children improves the lives of technology-dependent children and their families through skilled nursing, transitional, and palliative care. We are a haven for healing fragile bodies when improvement is possible, and a refuge for nurturing vulnerable spirits when a cure is unattainable.

Description

Exceptional Care for Children is Delaware’s first and only non-profit pediatric skilled nursing home, providing transitional, long-term, and end of life or palliative care to children who are all medically fragile and dependent on technology for survival. Our goal is to provide them a home-like enviroment, outside of the hospital, where they can experience life as a kid despite their medical challenges.
