Do you have a few spare hours every month? Are you 50 or older and want to make new friends while supporting a worthy cause? If yes, then the Stitch Community would love to hear from you!
WHAT IS THE STITCH COMMUNITY?
The Stitch Community is a not-for-profit charity that helps address loneliness and social isolation in people over 50.
We're now looking for volunteers across Texas to help grow local communities throughout the state, and help more people over 50 stay socially connected. This is exceptionally important, especially now that so many of us are physical distancing because of COVID-19.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're currently looking for Community Champion Volunteers (who are at least 50 years old) to help create and grow the Stitch community in their local area.
They will do this by creating a 'Stitch Group' for their area, and hosting a monthly event for this group over a 12 month period.
In light of the coronavirus pandemic, some locations will not be able to host in-person monthly events. That's OK, the monthly activity can be a virtual activity instead until the world returns to normal.
These monthly events are fun and informal gatherings where existing and new Stitch members can connect and form new friendships, helping to address and prevent loneliness and isolation.
(Please note, twelve months may seem like a long commitment, but it doesn't usually feel that way, as being a Community Champion Volunteer is actually a great deal of fun and most volunteers keep on doing it far longer than 12 months (in fact most never stop!). We just try to make the 12 month commitment clear so that you understand the community may take some time to become vibrant.)

Loneliness is considered the "the epidemic of the 21st century", with research increasingly proving that it is far worse for your health than obesity, poor diet, alcohol or lack of exercise.
That's where the Stitch Community comes in.
The Stitch Community is a not-for-profit charity that helps address loneliness and social isolation in people over 50.
Since 2014, over 980 volunteers have made an impact on social isolation and loneliness in over 50 cities worldwide.
More importantly, a 2019 member survey revealed a 54% reduction in loneliness & isolation among participating members.

REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 50
- As we only require our volunteers to host 1 Stitch Event per month, volunteering will only take a few hours. Having said that, volunteers are more than welcome to host more activities and events, if they like.
- To be eligible for this role you must be an outgoing and social person who enjoys the company of others. You must also own your own computer or phone with a camera, as that will be needed when hosting the monthly virtual events.
