Online learning is a struggle for everyone, but especially for low-income families. STEM Alliance's Virtual Mentors meet with students through Zoom video calls as part of a one-on-one mentoring program. Volunteers will help children in grades 1-8, navigate online learning, reinforce good digital learning routines, offer online homework support, and serve as a positive role model for students.

Virtual Mentors are high school students, college students, or adult volunteers who are passionate about helping children and who meet the following requirements:

  • 16 years old or older
  • Comfortable using a variety of technology platforms, such as Google Drive and Zoom
  • Able to commit to a minimum of six months (breaks over the summer are acceptable)
  • Able to volunteer a minimum of 2 hours per week and complete up to 10 hours in training with a STEM Coach over the six-month period
  • Can provide two character or professional references
  • Willing to submit to a background check
  • Bilingual (not required, but strongly encouraged)
