COVID-19 has disrupted the lives in many communities, but the need for blood for patients in need hasn’t changed. A patient needs blood every 2 seconds. Volunteer at the WS Blood Donation Center and at blood drives to support your community.
The American Red Cross has implemented an additional Blood Donor Screener volunteer opportunity in the interest of safety for the blood supply, recipients, other donors, staff, volunteers and general public health regarding COVID- 2019. The Blood Donor Screener will ensure people entering blood drives have a healthy temperature. PPE is provided!
Blood Donor Screeners:
- Warmly greet donors and manage donor flow at temp taking station to ensure only donors passing temp screen are permitted access.
- Explain purpose of temperature screen to donors and ensure they understand reason for deferral if applicable. Direct donor to next step of donation or options for future donations if deferred.
Minimum requirements:
- Must be 18+
- One 5-6 hour shift per month; Flexible- sign up for shifts that work with your schedule!
- Professional, clear and diplomatic communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse communities
