On-Call Food Delivery Driver from Bing Center
Monday-Friday from 8:30am-11:30am
This volunteer opportunity is for an on-call home delivery driver. On-call home delivery drivers are especially needed to provide timely emergency assistance to clients with special needs that require same day delivery.
Volunteers who commit to this shift are willing to be on-call drivers meaning they may or may not receive a call during this window to complete emergency deliveries.
On-call drivers will pick-up from the Second Harvest of Silicon Valley Warehouse, 1051 Bing Street in San Carlos and will be delivering groceries throughout San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
Learn More About Home Delivery:
Home delivery drivers deliver nutritious pre-boxed groceries to seniors and homebound individuals. Volunteers receive a specific driving route, load their personal vehicles with food boxes, and deliver boxes to recipients’ homes (using their personal phone to call/text recipients day-of as needed). The delivery is entirely contactless, and the majority of recipients are seniors and/or individuals living with disabilities or health challenges. This is a fun, independent volunteer activity that allows you to provide much needed support to homebound community members.
Please note that this volunteer activity requires repeated lifting of very heavy boxes that weigh 25 https://lbs to 40 lbs. and is best suited for volunteers with strong mobility and no back issues. The volunteer must be willing and able to work with people of different backgrounds and nationalities, exhibit compassion and sensitivity, and maintain strict confidentiality of all member and volunteer information.
Volunteer delivery drivers must be at least 18 years of age, able to pass a background check, and provide proof of auto insurance and a valid driver’s license. Volunteers must use their own mileage and gas to deliver food. Once you have completed your first volunteer shift, you can decide if you would like to commit to be a regularly scheduled, long-term volunteer. If you would like to complete additional deliveries, you must sign a Home Delivery Volunteer agreement and submit to a background check before the next volunteer event.

Description
Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is a private non-profit organization that collects and distributes more than 12 million pounds of food each month. We currently serve an average of over 500,000 individuals each month; 60% are low income families and 20% are seniors. By building collaborative networks, we efficiently distribute food by leveraging donations of money, food and human resources. But we cannot do it alone. We rely upon the energy and commitment of the local community to fight hunger. See more about our efforts at www.shfb.org.
