ORGANIZATION: Iowa National Guard Child & Youth Program

Position Objective: To assist the Iowa National Guard Lead Child and Youth Program Coordinator (LCYPC) and Child and Youth Program Coordinator (CYPC) in activities and events surrounding youth programs.

General Volunteer Qualifications for all Positions:

  • A desire to work with National Guard children and youth
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to think on your feet
  • 18 Years of age or older
  • A passed criminal history background check, on file with the LCYPC/CYPC
  • Signed Volunteer packet on file with LCYPC/CYPC

Responsibilities/ Duties of all Positions:

  • Have a willingness to work as a TEAM
  • Be supportive and empathetic to the Iowa National Guard Community (and affiliates)
  • Promote a safe environment for all children, youth, and volunteers
  • Maintain up-to-date record of accrued volunteer hours
  • Maintain open communication with LCYPC/CYPC regarding program concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned by the LCYPC/CYPC

Time Required: Time required will differ depending on the event. You can expect to be informed of the time commitment when being notified of upcoming events.

Supervision for all Positions: The LCYPC/CYPC will serve as the supervisor of all Iowa National Guard Child and Youth Program volunteers during youth program events. In the event the LCYPC/CYPC is not present an identified Specified Volunteer will serve as the supervisor during youth program events.

Functions:

  • Resources:
    • Resources are materials and/or ways to support military youth on specific issues.
    • Ex: Suicide prevention, bullying, PTSD of family member, deployment related issues, grief, anger management, substance abuse, and educational assistance.
  • Educational Outreach:
    • Education outreach is providing educators with an understanding of military youth culture.
    • Ex: The deployment Process and its effects on a military child's education.
  • Events:
    • Events are platforms to impact military youth through the following themes: life skills, bullying awareness, health and fitness, arts, technology, citizenship, leadership, and resiliency.
    • Ex: Summer camps, youth council, monthly military family connections (MMFC), month of the military child events, Military Resiliency Training (MRT), and other partnered events/training.
