Maverick Landing Community Services is looking for volunteers to help us make grocery drop offs in East Boston to food insecure families!

Our food operation happens every Wednesday and we feed just about 300 families. Each week we need between 8-10 volunteers to help us successfully make all of our drops. Volunteers receive a route with X amount of drops and we don't ever give out routes that take more than 1 hour. It's a fairly easy process and super rewarding!

If you are interested please email our volunteer coordinator at william@mlcsboston.org

Thanks so much!

Note: Its important to know some of the families we make drops to could potentially have or been exposed to COVID. All the drops are non contact but we like to let people know ahead of time anyways.

Mission Statement

Maverick Landing Community Services (MLCS) is a multi-service organization with a primary focus on helping children, youth, and adults to build 21st-century skills. Our mission is to enhance the lives of the culturally and economically diverse residents of Maverick Landing, East Boston, and surrounding communities by: Motivating people to achieve economic, educational, and personal goals Linking people to support systems Creating leadership opportunities Strengthening youth, families, and community

Description

MLCS is in the heart of a housing development where families live in subsidized units for over a decade on average. We watch babies become toddlers; toddlers become children; children become teens; and teens become adults. We have the opportunity to reach people at every turn. MLCS leverages this access by providing age-appropriate programming to help people break through learned barriers to build 21st century skills.

We Support:

  • School-aged children under 12: MLCS encourages smarter media and digital consumption in a staffed makerspace and tech lab. Through Maverick Makers, staff help children to develop a curiosity for learning with STEAM-based activities in a maker space for young learners.
  • Teens: MLCS employs a positive youth development and mentoring approach to build life skills and reengage youth in the possibilities of their future. Maverick Maker teens work and lead in the makerspace with kids and also work on product and program design and they are actively learning and using the design process with support from in-house designers and makers.
  • Adulthood: Supporting 21st century workforce development through a partnership with New Bostonians that makes possible English Innovations, a technology-infused English as a Second Language program as well as a partnership with Boston Career Connections a 21st century workforce development program.
