The Seaside Seabird Sanctuary is currently looking to expand its Injured Bird Rescue Team and is seeking volunteers who would like to rescue for the Sanctuary.

Seaside’s injured bird rescue hotline receives calls from all over Pinellas, Hillsbourgh, Pasco, and Manatee counties and is in need of individuals located throughout the region to rescue birds in the field.

Field Rescue volunteer recruits are trained to evaluate situations and decide whether a bird needs to be captured and transported to the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary’s Dr. Marie L. Farr Avian Hospital for treatment. Recruits are also trained on how to safely capture and transport birds of various species. Besides helping birds, our Field Rescue volunteers provide valuable information and assistance to the public.

Becoming a rescue Volunteer for the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary is a great activity for those who want to learn more about wildlife, enjoy getting out into the field, evaluating situations and interacting with the public. The experience is ever-changing and ever challenging.
Rescue volunteers work from home on an "on call" basis and can set the days and hours that they are willing to be "on call" for, as well as the geographical regions that they are willing to rescue in. Though Seaside is seeking rescuers who are available for all times of the day, currently Seaside is in most need of rescuers who are available between the hours of 5pm - 9pm.

Requirements to become a Seaside Seabird Sanctuary Rescue Volunteer are as follows:

* Must be at least 18-years old.
* Must own a Smartphone.
* Must be willing to use their own vehicle.
* Possess a valid driver’s license and provide proof of auto insurance.
* Must be able to maintain a friendly and professional attitude in stressful situations.
* Possess good communication skills.
* Must never have been convicted of animal cruelty or neglect.

If approved and accepted to become a Rescue Volunteer, all rescuers will be provided with:

* Training on how to capture, hold, and transport sick or injured birds of various species, as well as how to evaluate a bird to decide whether a bird needs to be transported to the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary’s Dr. Marie L. Farr Avian Hospital for treatment.
* Bird Transport Carrier and towels.
* A Seaside Seabird Sanctuary Rescue Volunteer shirt and ID Badge.
