The American Red Cross has partnered with the Alameda County Food Bank to ensure our community has access to healthy food, especially during this difficult time in our world. Help with this effort as a volunteer today!
We are looking for volunteers to work at the Alameda County Food Bank to help sort and distribute food. This includes sorting dry goods, produce, and packaged food into food bags and, where needed, helping with no client contact distribution of food to the public (e.g. cars drive up and food is placed in their trunk by volunteers).
Volunteers must be able to:
Bend and reach repetitively.
Regularly lift 10-pound bags and occasionally assist with 30-pound boxes.
Stand and walk on concrete for up to 3 hours at a time.
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE). A mask will be provided OR you can wear your own mask if desired.
- Volunteer for at least 2 consecutive days, although 5 consecutive days is ideal (shifts are available Monday-Friday). Shifts are 8:30am - 3:00pm.
- Tolerate bright lights and some noise (e.g. forklifts and heavy equipment, as well as amplified music.)
- Be prepared for cool mornings and warm afternoons. The warehouse is not climate-controlled.
As an essential business, we adhere to strict health and safety guidelines set by Alameda County health authorities. Everyone must wear a face covering upon entering our facility. Volunteers must also observe 6-foot social distancing rules at all times and adhere to all other safety rules. All volunteers will complete a COVID-safety health screening and have their temperature taken on arrival at the warehouse.
Note: Please note the age maximum for this opportunity is 65 (due to health concerns). The age minimum is 18.
