JerseySTEM recruits volunteer college students to coach online or in-person underseved midddle school girls in their discovery of STEM activities. The job of the Online Community Manager is to create and maintain the community of volunteer college student Coaches or college students interested in coaching in the future.
Essential responsibilities
- Building our nascent online community: embodying enthusiasm for helping middle school girls education, creating and nurturing a fun, collaborative space for our student coaches
- Expanding offline community to on-campus engagement: envision, plan, and launch a program for building JerseySTEM community on college campuses
- Build a strategy for event presence. Bring JerseySTEM to students organization events
- Provide consultation to College engagement recruiters and University relations personnel
- Build a network of college campus contacts
- A proven love for developing communities. You're a people-person and a connector; you have natural relationship-building skills, and you're deeply empathetic
- A penchant for project management; you think spinning multiple plates is fun!
- Excellent written & interpersonal communication skills
- You're extroverted; you get energy from interacting with people and understand what's needed to help people feel welcome and like they belong
- 2-3 years community, customer service, support, and/or operational experience at a consumer-facing company
- Passionate about helping middle school underserved girls

Mission Statement
JerseySTEM is a grassroots 501(c) nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math ("STEM") education to girls grade 5-8 from underserved communities in New Jersey. We partner with socially responsible companies and their employees, youth organizations in underserved communities, and civic-minded college students and universities. Together we develop and deliver innovative, hands-on, and online afterschool projects and inquiry-based learning opportunities that develop teamwork, 21st-century problem-solving skills, and self-esteem.
Description
Incorporated in 2013, JerseySTEM started bringing afterschool enrichment programs to middle school girls in 2015.
We have since provided 1,000 students with exposure to afterschool enrichment programs delivering more than 20,000 hours of instruction. Students learn to code, build robots, solve problems and through that process gain self-esteem and confidence that they can be the leaders of tomorrow.
