Our Crisis Advocates provide 24-hour crisis response through SARA’s crisis hotline as well as respond to emergency requests for in-person advocacy at local hospitals and law enforcement agencies. SARA volunteers are a crucial part of our ability to respond to survivors and their loved ones in moments of need, providing crisis intervention, support, advocacy, emergency assistance, and information and referrals.


This training is currently held via Zoom to accommodate safety and social distancing.

It is our mission to respond to sexual violence in our community through an empowerment model that is trauma-informed, collaborative, and multi-disciplinary.

Description

SARA Roanoke is the sexual assault crisis center for the Roanoke Valley in Virginia, providing free, confidential, and voluntary services to survivors and their loved ones. Services include our 24-hour crisis hotline, in-person advocacy and accompaniment, court advocacy and accompaniment, counseling and support groups, and community education. Our Volunteer Crisis Advocates help staff our crisis hotline, providing emotional support and crisis intervention, information and resources, and safety planning for survivors, allied professionals, and the greater community.
