Up to 60% of nursing home residents have no one to visit them. Volunteers are the eyes and ears of the Long Term-Care Ombudsman Program and are rewarded by knowing that their presence can make a difference in the lives and care of residents. Pro Seniors trains, supervises, and supports volunteer advocates to help residents understand & exercise their rights, and to form those critical connections that make them feel more incontrol of their lives. Volunteer Ombudsmen work closely with Staff Ombudsmen to help residents ask for what they need and want.
We know that everyone is unique, and we help you match your talents and interests with the activity best suited to you.
Volunteers may choose from the following activities:
·Observe in nursing home and assisted living communities;
·Assist a certified ombudsman staff with handling complaints.
·Handle uncomplicated complaints from residents;
·Provide outreach, information, & public presentations about the ombudsman program and consumer rights
Terms: Car Required - Must Provide Own Transportation

Other Information Requested of Volunteers: Listening skills and sensitivity to older people and those who have physical or mental challenges.

Pro Seniors helps older adults maintain their independence by empowering them, protecting their interests, and helping them access resources.
Description
Pro Seniors' provides legal advice to all Ohio residents age 60 or over who call our legal helpline, and free assistance to people in southwestern Ohio who need to choose and understand nursing homes and related long-term care. Pro Seniors also helps people resolve problems with long-term care providers, understand Medicare and other benefit programs, avoid Medicare fraud, and offers community education and regularly scheduled continuing education for professionals working with older adults.
