  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Due to the very unfortunate COVID-19 environment and social distancing limitations we are currently experiencing, The Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta has opted to revise its plans for the 2020 Kettle Krush 5K run/walk on May 16th that was scheduled for Piedmont Park.

Because the dollars from this fundraiser are needed more than ever now to help "krush" poverty, homelessness, sex trafficking, and support veterans and youth enrichment, the Kettle Krush 5K is now a Race in Place and anyone can participate - no running or walking is even required - and even win it!

We will hold a Kettle Krush 5K Race in Place event on May 16 on Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/KKAtlanta5K beginning at 9 a.m. You can tune into this broadcast from the comfort of your own home!

All participants in our event will be entered into a drawing for Kettle Krush awards so ANYONE can win the top overall male and female prizes. In addition, we’ll draw for top two masters winners (M&F) and top 3 winners in 16 age categories! The top 2 teams with the most registered participants (minimum 10 registrants) will also win special prizes.

In addition, all participants will receive a commemorative Race in Place T-shirt and have a good chance to win special giveaway prizes (i.e. Georgia Aquarium tickets, Big Peach gift certificates, and Home Depot goodies).

During the broadcast, we’ll also share the latest information about The Salvation Army’s mission and what the organization is doing, particularly related to COVID-19.

So here’s what we need from/request of you to help us:

- Sign up on ItsYourRace.com for the Kettle Krush 5K Race in Place. It’s only $30 if you register by 5/6 - with prices increasing after that. A Kettle Krush registration form is also attached if you prefer to complete and mail this in. (You will save an online registration fee with this method.)

- If possible when registering, create a team also by adding a team name. Then email your family members, friends, neighbors and others to be part of your team and or seek donations.

- Use #KettleKrushRaceinPlace to show us the creative pictures and videos about how you are racing in place by 5/14. Remember: No running or walking is required.

- Then "like" our Facebook page and plan to join www.facebook.com/KKAtlanta5K on May 16th at 9 a.m. We will provide more information about this closer to our event date regarding exactly how to access.

For more information, also visit https://salvationarmyatlanta.org/kettle-krush-5k-info-page/.

Your support of this event is extremely critical this year! We want to show our many wonderful sponsors and benefactors that the "race" must go on despite our shelter-in-place restrictions. The Salvation Army is working so hard to answer the many needs of the most vulnerable in our metro Atlanta community now and this is the best way we can help support them in this time of need!

Thanks in advance for joining in to support our hopefully once-in-a-lifetime Race in Place!

Mission Statement

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Description

The Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Area has 135 years of significant and long-term experience in understanding the barriers that prevent economically-disadvantaged populations from meeting their basic needs.

Many of the people we serve are on fixed incomes, earning minimum wage, supporting multiple family members on a single wage or simply not working at all. In particular, our nine Financial Emergency Service officers, Red Shield Services Emergency and Transitional Housing Shelter, three Boys and Girls Clubs and Residential Camping program serve people primarily living in poverty. The Salvation Army operates a wide range of programs throughout the Metro area, doing the most good everyday.

Since its beginning, volunteers have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with The Salvation Army to provide help. In fact, the name "The Salvation Army" came about in 1878 when William Booth adapted it from a phrase he read that described the organization as a "volunteer army." Often referred to as "the army behind The Army," volunteers play a crucial role in The Salvation Army's ability to provide quality social services to the local community.
