PRIMARY PURPOSE: supports the Area Management Team (AMT) to ensure that quality Special Olympics health events and are available to all eligible individuals in a specific geographic location. The Health Coordinator supports the general operations of the AMT by providing support to all members, volunteers, partners, teammates and athletes in a designated area.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
* Community: Seeks to create community connections on behalf of the organization; works to build health-related partnerships in the Glacier Area; a liaison with SOMT in the community.
* Area Planning and Oversight: Coordinates with Area Director (AD) and Local Program Coordinator (LPC) to promote Health Events for athletes. With the help of AMT members and SOMT staff, secures facilities for regional SOMT health events (MedFests, Fit 5 classes, etc.).
* Volunteer Management: Works with AMT and SOMT Outreach Director and Area Director to recruit new AMT volunteers, including medical personnel as volunteers at health events.
* Meetings: Attends monthly AMT meetings (in-person or by phone)
* Special Olympics Montana Connection: Participates in quarterly phone calls with Senior Director of Innovation and other Health Coordinator volunteers; Completes annual evaluation with SOMT Outreach Director/Coordinator; Serves a 3-5 year term.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE: Prior experience with a nonprofit organization or sports organization preferred. Ability to interact with volunteers in a positive, encouraging way. The ability to communicate openly and in a timely manner. Must complete Class A volunteer application and screening process through Special Olympics Montana.
TRAINING PROVIDED: New coordinator orientation and position-specific training provided by Special Olympics Montana staff. Ongoing training provided as necessary.
