Fresh Truck Mobile Markets

At About Fresh, we are on a mission to strengthen communities by getting fresh food to the households that need it most. We work to radically impact community health by celebrating food culture and strengthening communities with the food they need.

Our Fresh Truck mobile markets are a food justice program designed to use re-imagined vehicles to increase access to fresh food in traditionally marginalized communities. By bringing the shopping experience closer to people, we can, in turn, provide more opportunities for households to use SNAP/HIP benefits.

During these weekly mobile markets, Fresh Truck staff and volunteers set up to run a dignified shopping experience for communities to have the option of selecting from a variety of quality fruits and vegetables at affordable prices!

As a volunteer, you will directly support the Fresh Truck Mobile Markets by:

  • Filling and bagging shopper orders
  • Greeting & handing out tickets
  • Helping customers enter and exit the bus
  • Restocking shelves, breaking down cardboard boxes
  • Helping to maintain all health and safety protocols

Mission Statement

We are on a mission to strengthen communities by celebrating neighborhood food culture + getting healthy food to the households that need it most!

Description

It all started while Josh, our founder, was working as a health educator at the MGH Charlestown Healthcare Center. He kept hearing from his families that it was difficult to shop for healthy food - at that time, the only grocery store in the neighborhood was shutting down for a year-long renovation. The health center had no way of solving for the fact that patients didn’t have access to the food they needed to stay healthy. It was this experience that inspired Fresh Truck to rethink the traditional grocery store model, make it mobile, and bring food closer to the people who need it the most. In 2018, we expanded our efforts to address health disparities by developing Fresh Connect, a platform that makes it possible for health care providers to prescribe food as medicine. We have a big vision for the future of food and healthcare, and we are only just getting started.
