Fresh Box
Fresh Box is a community-based food delivery program developed in response to the COVID-19 crisis. The program is designed for social distancing, citywide reach across Boston, and cost-efficiency. The goal of Fresh Box is to provide food access for Boston residents throughout the duration of the COVID-19 lockdown.
About Fresh is partnered with the City of Boston and Boston-based hunger relief agencies to coordinate Fresh Truck Box program enrollment. Fresh Box is supported by the Boston Resiliency Fund.
Volunteers will directly support the Fresh Box program by delivering boxes door-to-door to households in need. About Fresh will train volunteers on safety protocol and provide all of the necessary safety materials.
- Volunteers arrive at the About Fresh warehouse with their vehicles
- Participate in safety training and how-to details for delivery routes
- Volunteers will use their smartphones with the delivery routing app
*Note: This volunteer opportunity requires a vehicle and a valid driver's license to participate in the distribution*
*Note: Depending on the delivery route the shift may be slightly longer or shorter than the advertised time*

Description
It all started while Josh, our founder, was working as a health educator at the MGH Charlestown Healthcare Center. He kept hearing from his families that it was difficult to shop for healthy food - at that time, the only grocery store in the neighborhood was shutting down for a year-long renovation. The health center had no way of solving for the fact that patients didn’t have access to the food they needed to stay healthy. It was this experience that inspired Fresh Truck to rethink the traditional grocery store model, make it mobile, and bring food closer to the people who need it the most. In 2018, we expanded our efforts to address health disparities by developing Fresh Connect, a platform that makes it possible for health care providers to prescribe food as medicine. We have a big vision for the future of food and healthcare, and we are only just getting started.

- Volunteer shifts start are 8:30am-12:30pm on Weekdays & 10:30am-3:00pm on Saturdays.
- This opportunity requires a vehicle and valid driver's license. You will be lifting boxes that weigh about 20lbs
