ORGANIZATION: El Nido Family Centers

  • 41 people are interested

We may all be practicing social distancing, but you can still be a volunteer remotely.

Volunteer Career Exploration program.

The purpose of this program is to familiarize youth with careers that they are interested in, and introduce them to new career opportunities. Most important, we want to engage young people with experts in their fields, and give them a sense of hope for the future during these challenging times.

A select group of business professionals, in a variety of professions, are asked to have an informal, virtual conversation with El Nido high school youth (s) for a 30-minute discussion about their career experiences.

All presentations will be done on a free conference call line to ensure that no contact information is shared with youth or the volunteer presenter, and to allow multiple youth participants if more than one person is interested in a topic. In addition, there will be a staff person on all calls as a moderator.

Presenters are given guidelines to steer their presentations in a direction most beneficial to youth, and in an approach that allows meaningful youth feedback. We will prepare a list of questions that the youth can ask the professional guest speaker to assure the conversation is productive.

Here are a few suggested topics: How to write a resume, Mock interviews, Career advice & planning, Real Estate, Engineering or Legal careers, Budgets and personal finance, How to run your own small business, How to build a website or create a video game, How to take good photos with your phone, Culinary skills or a fun recipe that’s healthy and easy to prepare, Demonstrate a craft or unique skill, Teach a yoga, dance, meditation or other class, Do story readings, How to play a musical instrument, How to write poetry, Teach an industry, improvisation or acting class, or Gardening for kids.

Let us know more about you and your career topic at: https://www.elnidofamilycenters.org/volunteer-opportunities/
