ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross / Northwest Region

What: The American Red Cross responds to a disaster every 8 minutes. That’s an average of more than 60,000 disasters every year. The Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing.

Training: The Red Cross provides all the training needed and all new members are paired with an experienced member to provide guidance.

The work of a Disaster Action Team can be emotional, but also deeply rewarding to be able to provide support and assistance to someone in one of their darkest moments.

There are also regular team meetings and ongoing training opportunities for personal growth, leadership positions and deployments for natural disasters.
