Help us kick colorectal cancer's butt at the Detroit Walk to End Colon Cancer! Previously called the Undy RunWalk, the Walk to End Colon Cancer is a fundraising event for the programs of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance to screen, care, and cure colorectal cancer. All of the funds raised will go toward the Care During COVID-19 Fund, set up to provide extra assistance to CRC patients and caregivers in this difficult time.
We are shifting the Detroit Walk to End Colon Cancer to be a hybrid event. We will not gather as planned in a large group for the event, but instead we will encourage people to register, fundraise, and walk in their community on the day of the Walk. In addition, we are asking participants to close out their walk experience with a fun on-site activation. We ask that they drive by in their decorated car to pick-up their participant goody bag. A small number of volunteers will be on-hand to cheer them on and thank them for their participation.
The drive-by Victory Lap will be from 10 am to 12 pm in the parking lot of the Detroit Historical Museum. Participants will drive up in their decorated cars, but they will remain inside their cars. A handful of volunteers with masks will be on hand to place the participant bags either in the trunk or back seat of cars to stay safely distanced. The bags will contain a pair of Undy boxers, colorectal cancer educational materials, branded sponsor items, and where appropriate a survivor medal or fundraising incentive item. The volunteers will be giving the bags out but also cheering for participants and celebrating the event in this new way.
We need a few volunteers to help from 8:30 am to 1 pm to help set up the Victory Lap, welcome participants, hand out swag bags (without contact), and direct cars to help the event run smoothly. If you are willing to help in this way, please let me know and our team will give you more details and instructions for volunteering. Volunteers will be required to wear masks, social distance, and regularly use hand sanitizer.
