Public health concerns caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic present significant challenges as the American Red Cross continues to deliver its lifesaving mission. To meet these challenges, we are investing an estimated $140 million to make sure we can support people across the country who count on Red Cross blood and disaster relief services. To help maintain a sufficient supply of blood for patients
with critical needs over the coming weeks, we are:
* Ensuring that we have enough workers to collect vital blood products.
* Providing resources and equipment to help ensure the safety of blood donors and workers.
* Investing in awareness and outreach efforts to inform the public about the ongoing need for blood donations.

Blood donations are essential to ensuring the health of our communities, and we greatly appreciate the generosity of volunteer donors who have helped stock hospital shelves for people with critical medical needs. As experts have emphasized, there is no certain end date in this fight against coronavirus, and the Red Cross will continue to need the help of blood donors and blood drive hosts to maintain a sufficient blood supply in the weeks ahead.
