ORGANIZATION: Canadian Cancer Society - Ontario

Take the challenge:

Volunteers are the community drivers in every Run location in Canada. Together with a committee of like-minded individuals, you will raise funds for breast cancer research and support programs through the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure. Planning and organizing the Run takes time, passion and creative thinking. In partnership with volunteers and staff, you will be part of something truly extraordinary in your community. Although this is a national event, local success depends on volunteers like you. With your community insight, you will raise awareness, encourage participation, and drive fundraising results.

What’s Involved:

As the Hope Lead you will create relationships with local groups that support people living with or beyond cancer, and people who have faced cancer and have previously participated in the Run. You will work with your Sponsorship Lead to source, draws/giveaways or services for Run day. You will be responsible for sourcing a speaker who will inspire hope, organizing an activity to honour people who are living with and beyond cancer, creating the layout for the hope tent/area. You will ensure a memorable and engaging experience at the CIBC Run for the Cure for people who have experienced cancer.

Time Commitment:

  • Monthly committee meetings from May to July and biweekly in August and September
  • Weekly tasks averaging 3-5 hours per week depending on the scope of tasks and time of year
  • Attendance and leadership role at Run events/opportunities leading up to & including Run Day
  • In person availability for Run Day and for two days prior

The ideal Hope Lead is/has:

  • The ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Passionate about building relationships and hearing the stories on why people participate
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Regular access to a computer
You will gain and experience:
  • Contributing to the organization’s vision of creating a world where no Canadian fears cancer.
  • Planning and communicating with participants and potential supporters
  • Working collaboratively with volunteers in the community
