The Youth Mentor will:

Build a relationship with one child in the Colorful Dreams mentor community.

Meet weekly with mentee for 1-2 hours and participate in an activity that the pair choose together (homework, playing catch, cooking, library visit, etc).

Participate monthly in a large group activity or field trip on a Saturday.

Attend monthly mentor group meeting prior to large group weekend activity. Track time involved with mentee and report hours monthly to Mentoring Program Coordinator once a month.

Participate in program evaluations (pre-survey and post-survey). Understand and make a written commitment to follow Colorful Dreams policies and procedures outlined in the Colorful Dreams Volunteer Member Handbook and Youth Mentoring Program Handbook.

  • Inform Program Coordinator of any changes in Mentee behavior, concerns, or questions.

Colorful Dreams' goal is to foster a commitment to young people that will promote pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future. Personal relationships will create a sense of individual responsibility to be reestablished. This individual responsibility will give youth the commitment to follow through on a path to adulthood with a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Description

Colorful Dreams is a nonprofit agency 501(c) (3) providing mentoring programs for middle and high school youth in the greater New Orleans Louisiana area. The program will form partnerships with local school districts and the juvenile court system. Youth are matched with a caring adult volunteer who is trained to focus on positive reinforcement, trust-building, and the achievement of goals, by engaging youth in one-on-one outing and group adventures in the community.
Mentors and youth agree to meet for between 10-15 hours per month for a full year.
