ORGANIZATION: Good Shepherd Hospice

Good Shepherd Hospice is looking for people skilled in the used of knitting, crochet, and sewing needles to help create a variety of patient comfort and staff support items. These include:

  • Making red, white, & blue afghans for our Veteran patients. These can be knitted or crocheted. We can supply the yarn.
  • Making small quilts and throws for our hospice house patients. Size should by around 3' x 4'. These can be sewn, quilted, knitted or crocheted.
  • Making masks for our staff and visitors at our hospice houses. We can supply some of the material and patterns.
  • Making gowns for our field staff to wear when visiting patients due to the shortage of protective gowns available. We have material and patterns.

All work can be done at the volunteer's home. I can deliver supplies to volunteers in the Lakeland area or they can be picked up at our Lakeland Hospice House located at 3450 Lakeland Hills Blvd. 33805.

Description

Hospice care allows those no longer seeking curative treatment to die in comfort and peace, and in control of their surroundings, with supportive care extending to the entire family network. Good Shepherd Hospice provides care to almost half of all those who die in our communities, serving Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties. Care is based on medical need without regard to race, age, ability to pay, creed, gender, lifestyle, or illness. As a non-profit organization, we are able to provide charitable care through generous donations and the special care that our volunteers provide.
