Volunteer at the Washington English Center from Home this Spring!
Are you looking for a meaningful, fun way to give back to the community this spring from the comfort of your own home? Volunteer at Washington English Center!
Washington English Center is a non-profit, community-based organization that prepares volunteer teachers to provide high-quality educational services, access to technology, and life-skills programs to all adult immigrants in the Washington metropolitan area, regardless of ability to pay.
We are currently recruiting volunteers for one-on-one English tutors, co-teachers, and club leaders, for the upcoming spring term. Please look at our spring flyer here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_chhQwYSUemhHWif9dxJGKT0Y8Nyl3QuIXtayaPqX7g/edit?usp=sharing
While our students come to class multiple times a week, we ask our volunteers to commit to only one day a week (1-2 hours) during each 11-week term. We provide teachers with a course syllabus and a textbook and use a unique co-teaching method to provide new volunteers with the support they might need throughout the semester. The WEC staff is also always here to support you with hands-on guidance. We have your back every step of the way!
The spring term begins April 12th (and runs through the week of June 24th). We require all volunteers to be fluent English speakers and at least 18 years old to participate. No teaching experience is necessary.
Please note, WEC asks that all volunteers (new and returning) participate in online training prior to the term.
WEC offers employment services to students. If you are interested in being a job coach, please contact Renee McKie, rmckie@washingtonenglish.org about current ways to get involved.
