Climate change is here and there’s no time to waste. In October 2018, the UN released its Special Report on Global Warming and confirmed that aggressive and unprecedented measures must be taken to reduce emissions and limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius. 2020 is a critical year for climate change in the US and across the world. In order to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, we need to build an unprecedented amount of public support for climate action in Iowa and beyond.

While our world is faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, we can still come together (online) to work for climate progress. Environment Iowa is launching a summer campaign to engage Iowans from all corners of the state while calling on our elected leaders to act on climate now while building long term support for federal climate policy.

Environment Iowa is launching a volunteer Iowa Environmental Defense Network to cooridinate a statewide initiative to support federal climate policy while joining a local volunteer team. Join the team to build awareness about climate and other environmental issues, collect petitions, call elected officials, work with the media, learn grassroots organizing skills, and meet other Iowans who want to protect our beautiful state and make a difference.

Mission Statement

Every day, we see more heartbreaking evidence of the damage being done to our planet: climate change, plastic pollution, wildlife disappearing forever. But we also see the solutions all around us, practically begging us to adopt them: solar and wind power, electric cars and buses, more walkable and "bikeable" cities, reusing and repairing stuff instead of throwing it away, and on and on. Environment Iowa’s mission is to transform the power of our imaginations and our ideas into change that makes our world a greener and healthier place for all.

Description

In 2020, Environment Iowa is building grassroots support for strong federal policy to support climate solutions like renewable energy and getting off fossil fuels. Given the coronavirus pandemic, we are shifting to remote campaign work. Over the next few weeks, our goal is to help more Iowans from all corners of the state engage in the climate movement in different ways than ever before. We are shifting to remote organizing tactics like online petition collection and educational events as we build momentum into the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day.
