Guanlan Scholarship Foundation
The Guanlan Scholarship Foundation since 2000 has been giving scholarship support to keep village girls in school through high school in one left-behind area of western China. Continued schooling empowers the girls to imagine wider horizons and take advantage of better living and work opportunities beyond small-scale farming, sex work or sweatshops. Better educated girls can take better care of themselves and their families and are better able to resist rampant sexist workplace abuses.
The Foundation has an updated actively managed website and a group presence on facebook, however is lacking other social media presence.
In addition the Foundation needs volunteers to recruit and manage person-to-person connections with the Guanlan Scholarship Sisters in China.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.

Educate girls today and it will create lasting change for the next generation, one girl, one village at a time in left-behind China.
Since 2000, the Foundation has collected funds to support scholarships to fund 30-50% of yearly costs for schooling, grades 1 through 12, for girls of one village complex in a poverty region of western China. By 2019, 116 girls have received Scholarship funds, typically for four to six years, and as long as 10 years.
The Foundation has a close relationship with a partner organization in China, which is based in the population of that village and conducts the research regarding family need for scholarship support and distributes the scholarship annually.
The Foundation maintains records of each scholarship recipient's family need status and educational attainment. In addition the scholarship recipients report in writing annually how they are progressing through school and what their specific needs are.
The president of the Foundation continues to visit with the scholarship recipients and sometimes their families to understand how their lives are developing, if they are safe and gainfully employed or otherwise doing well. We also communicate on various Chinese language social platforms.
We'll work with your schedule.
This is a Virtual Opportunity, with no fixed address.
