Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.
Volunteer in a retirement or long-term caring facility through LITA's:
One-to-One program - Social engagement with one or more resident friends Pet Connection program - Bring your well-behaved pet to visit with one or more residents in a nearby facility Family Connections - All or part of a family unit who visits with a resident And ask about our newest program, Bridging Thru Music!
Assist a facility Activity/Recreation department - Help the Activity staff set-up or break down an activity, call bingo, play games or work puzzles with residents, decorate for events/holidays, help residents with an art/craft project, read to the vision impaired, lead a sing-a-long. Are you an artist? Consider sharing your form of creativity by leading and instructing an interested group of older adults.
LITA Office Assistance: Help with bulk mailings, special events, fundraising, office assistance and other clerical tasks.
