During the COVID-19 crisis, The Salvation Army continues to partner with the City of San Francisco to distribute fresh meals (Monday - Friday) to around 375 homeless people in encampments across San Francisco. We urgently need volunteers to accompany Officers and Staff as we distribute meals.
We urgently need volunteers to accompany Officers and Staff as we distribute meals.
Volunteers will assist in sorting meals by route ready for delivery, then will be assigned to a team for distribution, led by Salvation Army Officers and supported by staff members. Volunteers will allocated to a team (1-2 per team) on arrival at the loading area (South of Market). We anticipate the shift will be 2-3 hours (including sorting and delivery).
Masks and gloves will be provided, along with clothing to identify volunteers as being with The Salvation Army. All possible efforts are being taken to ensure social distancing is maintained both amongst team members (except during transportation) and clients.
DETAILS: Shifts are Monday through Saturday from 11:00am to 2:00pm (approximately - times may vary depending on day/route). Up to 6 volunteers per shift.
We ask that all volunteers register through The Salvation Army volunteer site by copying and pasting the link below into a browser and following the steps. You will be provided with full details, complete volunteer paperwork and choose your preferred shift(s).

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human need in His name without discrimination.
The Salvation Army was established in London in 1865, and since 1883 has been serving the San Francisco Bay Area, offering practical support, spiritual comfort and a critical safety net to people in need. The safety net is funded in part by donations from the Red Kettle Campaign which started in San Francisco in 1891. Nearly 600,000 San Franciscans receive assistance from the Army annually through a range of social services; clothing and shelter for the homeless, food for the hungry, opportunities for underprivileged children, alcohol rehabilitation, transitional housing, nutritional and housing support for seniors and relief for disaster survivors. For every dollar donated to The Salvation Army, 82 cents is used to support those services in the 16 facilities throughout San Francisco and South San Francisco communities.
