The Red Cross has adapted quickly and has implemented multiple steps in the interest of safety to address COVID-19. There is an urgent and critical need for volunteers to support these protocols. A new volunteer position has been created: Blood Donor Screener. These volunteers will help pre-screen blood donors entering drives or donation centers.
The Blood Donor Screener position will provide excellent customer service to enhance the blood donor experience, executing donor temperature screening on potential donors prior to their entry into the blood drive. This position serves as a gatekeeper by providing additional screening the American Red Cross has implemented in the interest of the safety of the blood supply, recipients, other donors, staff, volunteers and general public health regarding COVID-2019 outbreaks. We ask that someone interested in volunteering for this position be able to commit to at least 1 shift a month (average shift is 5-6 hours). PPE and remote training will be provided.
