Morningside Volunteer Fire Department Need Members Who Love Adventure & Serve the Community

The Morningside Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) is looking for members. MVFD is a 100% volunteer fire department that operates 24/7. We have openings for Fire fighters, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) and Paramedics. Experience in the fire industry is not required. We provide training for you which includes access to multiple higher education facilities with fully accredited fire science and paramedic programs. If you love adventure and love to serve a community, MVFD is the place for you! In addition, we have an excellent retirement plan. That's right, after 25 years, you can receive an annuity for volunteering and serving the community. Live out of the State of Maryland? This is not a problem. We welcome all!

We also have a Live-in Program with private rooms, free internet access via WiFi, full kitchen and laundry facilities,and access to the Metro including the bus and the Green line. As a Live-in member, you are required to be on duty for a minimum of 40 hours during the week and 12 on the weekend. The minimum age 16 to be a member, with parental authorization. MVFD is a family who cares about each other just as we do for the community that we serve. The process to become a member is very easy.

Mission Statement

The Morningside Volunteer Fire Department will accomplish its vision by ensuring all members are competent and capable in needed areas of training, being regularly engaged with local community groups, and strive to reflect the local community, be professional, and provide equity to all.


The Morningside Volunteer Fire department (MVFD) has proudly served the Town of Morningside and the citizens of Prince George’s County since 1944. Our diverse department consists of working professionals and tradesman, individuals who have retired from their careers, college students, and young adults, who proudly volunteer their time to provide 24/7 fire protection and emergency medical services. We house live-in members who serve as Firefighters and EMS. In addition, we have an administrative staff that supports the department’s mission and operations team. The town makes up .56 square miles of the Department’s primary response area. The total response area includes many portions of Prince George’s County such as Camp Springs, Suitland, Temple Hills, Fairmont Heights, District Heights, Capital Heights, Oxon Hill, Forestville, Clinton, Upper Marlboro, Fort Washington, and Seat Pleasant. Throughout any given year, our members can also respond to the Nation’s Capitol, Washington, DC, and points as far away as Alexandria, VA. MVFD is 100% volunteer and one of the busiest fire departments in the county. The population density can fluctuate to 90,000 people throughout the peak travel periods and during special events. Notably, the MVFD is a primary responder to Joint Base Andrews, a 17+ mile portion of the Interstate 95/495 "the beltway", 4 METRO stations, and several other critical infrastructure assets and federal government sites.
