Peer Outreach Program

Greetings!

My name is Myah Brown, and I am the Community Engagement and Volunteer Services Manager here at Renaissance Social Services.

As we all experience the new reality of the COVID-19 pandemic, social isolation has been at an all-time high for our participants. In our efforts to keep staff and volunteers safe through social distancing, the lack of face-to-face engagement may be negatively impacting those we serve by creating a heightened sense of isolation and loneliness.

Renaissance wants to ensure that the health and well being of our participants is addressed by creating as many virtual Peer support opportunities as possible. To that end, we have created a new Peer Outreach Program. As a participant, you are also a Peer! And as a Peer, you can:

  • Sign-up on the attached Google Doc to call or video call one or more participants at scheduled times
  • We’ll give you a short training on how to reach out and engage with others
  • We'll give you the name and phone number of one or more participants that you can reach out to and engage with

Your role in volunteering with us here at Renaissance is one that plays a huge part in helping provide conversation, support, encouragement to make sure our participants know we care about their well being!

Renaissance Social Services Inc. is a non-profit agency which provides housing stability services to persons who are previously homeless and disabled. Homeless definitions follow HUD guidelines, and disabilities can include physical disabilities, HIV/AIDS, mental illness, substance abuse. We partner with Renaissance Realty and other affordable housing providers to provide case management to address quality of life issues and past circumstances which have led to their becoming homeless. The housing is permanent, affordable, and also includes rent subsidies for those whose incomes are eligible. The ultimate goal of the program is to help clients maintain their place in permanent housing, to increase their skills and income, and to achieve self-determination.
