Safe At Home Volunteer

Background
Rebuilding Together Seattle (RTS) helps ensure safe and healthy living conditions for vulnerable populations throughout the Greater Seattle region. We are a nonprofit that offers home repairs and maintenance at no cost to the people we serve. Our mission is to help families and individuals remain in their homes and to preserve the character and culture of our local communities.

Volunteer Role Description
The Safe At Home Program is our year-round maintenance program that delivers critical, mission-focused repair work. Safe at Home Volunteers will work with the RTS Program Staff to coordinate and execute home repair projects. Volunteers will:

  • Examine homes and assess the repairs and maintenance that are needed
  • Plan project budget and materials
  • Perform repair work, such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, weatherization, accessibility improvements, flooring, drywall, cleaning, yard work, among others
  • Engage with residents to understand the repairs they need

Location
The location for volunteering will change from project to project. Because volunteers are able to choose which projects they would like to work on, volunteers may also choose specific areas and neighborhoods in which they prefer to volunteer.

Time Commitment
RTS does not have time commitment requirements for volunteers because we understand that our volunteers have varying degrees of time that they are able to contribute. That said, most of our Safe At Home volunteers commit to completing three to four projects each a year, and are able to complete projects around a schedule that fits their availability.

Mission Statement

Together, we serve Seattle by repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives. We strive to provide safe homes and communities for everyone.

Description

Rebuilding Together Seattle is the leading community revitalization partner focused on addressing substandard, unsafe, and unhealthy housing conditions. As part of the national Rebuilding Together network, our 140 affiliates repair 10,000 homes annually with the help of nearly 100,000 volunteers. We leverage resources and partnerships to offer home repair and modification services to low-income homeowners and nonprofit facilities at entirely no cost to them. Our coordinated approach between residents, volunteers, municipalities, nonprofits, businesses, foundations, and other partner organizations builds and sustains safe, healthy, and thriving communities. More than housing repair, we improve health outcomes, stabilize housing and homeownership, and reduce the need for new affordable housing. Our work preserves treasured memories and restores social networks, while celebrating community through the strengthening of our neighborhoods. Together we repair homes, revitalize communities, and rebuild lives.
