Description:

Join Red Cross’ upcoming High-Country Disaster Virtual Volunteer Fair on Wednesday, 10/28 from 12-1 pm to learn how to help your neighbors and community in times of need!

Last year, Red Cross disaster volunteers responded to over 100 home fires in the High-Country area. Before the busy winter home fire season, Red Cross is seeking 39 additional disaster volunteers to join the team in Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Watauga, and Wilkes counties.

Volunteers are needed to join their local Disaster Action Team to respond to disasters including home fires to provide comfort, hope, and resources to those impacted, and to assist virtually as a Disaster Casework Volunteer to help individuals and families recover after a disaster.

The virtual session will include:

  • An Overview of Red Cross
  • Disaster Response in the High-Country Area
  • Disaster Volunteer Opportunities
  • How to Get Started as a Volunteer
  • Questions

RSVP required by 10/27. RSVP by visiting: tinyurl.com/HighCountryRSVP

Participants can join the session via computer or phone. Instructions to join the session will shared after you RSVP.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Must be 18 +
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Complete online training

Note: Due to COVID-19, Disaster Action Team procedures have been modified to include enhanced precautions and provide mostly virtual support to ensure the safety of our volunteers.
