Has a powerful story ever changed your perspective or understanding? We create theatre to open hearts and minds in powerful ways and move toward a better future. AFT board members can help amplify underrepresented voices in the LGBTQIA community, and help create a brave space for our youth to explore creativity, leadership, and social change. This has been life-changing and life-saving for many.
Our Programs
Our programs include: (1) A season of LGBTQIA+ focused Equity theatre productions featuring premieres of groundbreaking work; (2) Year-round educational programming that includes theatre and leadership training for youth, a touring show, and public performances; (3) Special readings and workshops throughout the year to support the development of new work that aligns with our mission.
Are you the ideal candidate?
We seek members who are passionate about our mission, support LBGTQIA+ issues, believe in the power of theatre, and who are motivated to serve a community. We seek members who bring joy and positivity along with professional skills, strong networks, and a readiness to raise resources and build connections. We care about equity and social justice, and seek members who will serve AFT’s mission in alignment with our values.Skills of all kinds are welcomed (fundraising/development, HR, strategic planning, finance, marketing, special events, NFP/arts/ /education/youth sector experiences). We are especially interested in additional POC/trans/non-binary members to more accurately reflect Chicago’s LGBTQIA+ communities.
