Konocti Senior Support, Inc. offers the Senior Peer Counseling program where senior volunteers are trained to provide counseling to isolated seniors struggling with depression or anxiety. With the massive increase in seniors isolated through sheltering in place, we are looking for more volunteers to be trained to provide counseling over the telephone. Recruitment, training, and ongoing supervision of volunteers will take place either online or via telephone. Volunteers do not need prior experience in counseling, but they do have to be 55 years or older, and willing to learn new skills and join our team. Description
SENIOR PEER COUNSELING
A program that provides trained peer counselors who listen and help problem-solve with seniors with a specific issue to resolve. We conduct a no-cost intake assessment for all seniors referred. After training, Volunteer Senior Peer Counselors provide weekly visits to help seniors cope with losses, problem-solving, reduce relationship conflicts, and think through options. Volunteers also can provide referrals for legal help, caregiving, nutrition, housing and more.
