Since the beginning of the Covid-19 quarantine, Cleveland Opera Theater has been making an effort to respond to the needs of our community by providing virtual and downloadable content for all ages. While we have content, we do not have a graphic designer on staff, nor do we have the budget to hire someone (we're REALLY small, and Covid has taken quite a toll on our resources).
We would love a volunteer (or a couple) who are willing to help create the designs for our upcoming Opera Explorers program downloads as well as a booklet for our programs bookable by libraries and community organizations. We will also be running a program during the month of October aimed at teaching high schoolers the parallels between opera and hip-hop, and we will be in need of a recruitment flier to send out the week of Labor Day.
Notes:
> For Opera Explorers, you would not need to reinvent the wheel - simply mimic the design of the first release in subsequent releases, changing the content for each. The next one is set to go out on September 22nd. All the content is ready, but it needs to be designed! The first release is viewable at ClevelandOperaTheater.org/explorer, so you can get an idea of the project.
> For the Programming Guide, the design can be as simple or complicated as you want - this would be an excellent project for someone looking to round out their portfolio. The goal is to develop something similar to this: https://arts-inspiredlearning.org/resource-guide/ (but we have far fewer programs, so it would be a far smaller project).
> The recruitment flier is super simple - we're just hoping for something visually engaging to a high school audience. It would be REALLY awesome if this was made "template-able," so we could reuse it on our own in the future. The biggest issue for us is that no one has consistent access to any form of "real" software, so most design is done by a non-graphic designer in PowerPoint, Canva, or a similar program. This is, again, a great project if you need to add to your portfolio.
In a dream world, we'd love to find someone willing to volunteer on a regular basis to help out with fliers and small needs - or large needs if you so desire. Our website is currently being redesigned and updated (when you visit, you'll probably see a big difference between the home page and all other pages), and we have been working on improving our social media branding over the past few months.
If any or all of these projects are of interest, please contact Megan at mthompson@clevelandoperatheater.org to express your interest. Please specify which project(s) as well as whether you're interested in a short-term or long-term opportunity.
