We are looking for a committed coach to take over leadership of the SoulDeevas' Collegiate Hip-Hop Majorette Dance team, which serves girls in grades 11 to age 25 in New York City.
We recruited for the team just before the pandemic hit and the girls have been "on break" ever since. We are working as hard as we can to keep them engaged virtually - while working to find committed leadership for them once they return. Our season is generally from September to June, but given that the pandemic has robbed us of two months, we are considering extending into the summer- but that will be decided with our coaches.
The team practices on Saturdays from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at the Pearl Studios in the Penn Station area of Manhattan. The team is very small - about five young ladies - but we anticipate recruiting again once we return to in-person practices. The team as it is now is comprised of girls with formal dance training - so they will be able to pick up complex routines relatively quickly. The team will be trained to perform and compete on local and national stages.
While we remain on lockdown, we will work to onboard new coaches - adding them to our website, introducing them through our social media pages; developing our calendar for the rest of the season and a wish-list of what the coaches would like to see their teams accomplish in the next season. Coaches will need to download the free app BAND - which is where each team has their own virtual studio. It is here that coaches can post choreography, have chats with their team, post notices, pictures and do live chats and practices. You will also work with the current coaches of our other majorette teams in NY and NJ on events where the entire organization is invited to appear.
While coaching and majorette dance experience is not critical - experience in hip-hop dance is mandatory. We will consider a recent high school graduate with significant dance experience.

Friends of MJHS ("Friends") is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation organized for the purpose of generating contributions, pledges and funds for the development and ongoing support of Citadel Academy Prep School (CAPS), a school that will provide students in grades 6-8 with a high quality Christian education through a well balanced, yet challenging curriculum that ministers to the spirit, soul and body.
Friends will also provide funds, management and ongoing support of The SoulDeevas Performing Arts Company, a character building sports and arts program that will serve all youth regardless of their religious affiliation. The SoulDeevas will include programs that provide activities, resources and support during critical out-of-school time hours in a safe, nurturing environment that works from a strengths-based, youth development perspective.
