Volunteer to feed the hungry at St. Michael's Soup Kitchen on the Upper West Side at 99th St. and Broadway! In the midst of this public health crisis, the number of New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity is drastically increasing and St. Michael's Soup Kitchen is working hard to meet this need and keep everyone safe, healthy, and fed. If you have been feeling stuck and unsure how to help during this time, this is a perfect opportunity for you! We need healthy volunteers to both help prep bags of food on Friday afternoons and serve them to guests (with physical distancing and thorough sanitizing processes in place!) on Saturday mornings from 9-11:30am. This is a great opportunity to volunteer as an individual or with your family or roommates.

Mission Statement

EPISCOPAL CHARITIES: AN OVERVIEW The mission of Episcopal Charities embraces a wide range of activities that promote and support the community service programs operated and supported by Episcopal congregations in the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Episcopal Charities provides three basic services: Grantmaking, Educational Development, and Fund Development, representing a coordinated approach to support for congregations that wish to operate or sponsor programs serving people in their communities.

Description

GRANTMAKING The Episcopal Charities grants program includes two annual cycles: Grants for Basic Human Needs, providing support for a wide range of programs, and the Keystone Partnership for Youth, targeting funds for programs serving young people. The recipients of program funds are listed elsewhere, as are the guidelines for applying for grant funds EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT Each year Episcopal Charities offers a range of educational and training opportunities to all outreach programs in the Diocese, whether or not they receive an Episcopal Charities grant. These opportunities take advantage of two resources; the accumulated wisdom and experience of program leaders and professionals throughout programs in the Diocese, brought together to share their knowledge with colleagues in similar programs, and experts in program and service areas supported by Episcopal Charities. FUND DEVELOPMENT The fund development activities of Episcopal Charities generate all the funds used in its grantmaking program and more than 80% of its total annual revenue. With a small administrative staff and an actively engaged board of directors, Episcopal Charities is able to directly allocate more than 85% of funds raised publicly to program activities, a figure considerably higher than industry standards.
