It is a great way to learn how to work directly with homeless youth through street outreach, mentoring/tutoring youth in schools, and supporting youth in other ways. We also have a number of behind-the-scenes opportunities in advocacy, communications, and development.

Mission Statement

The mission of StandUp for Kids is to end the cycle of youth homelessness. We do this one life at a time. Every day, homeless youth face obstacles that most of us cannot comprehend. Where will I have my next meal? When can I shower? Where will I sleep tonight? We assist homeless youth in tackling some of their everyday obstacles and work towards a life of safety, good health, and connections off the streets.

Description

StandUp for Kids is a national non-profit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of youth homelessness in local communities like ours in Washington, DC and 17 other cities across the country. Since 1990, we have cared for homeless and at-risk youth by transitioning them from crisis to connection. We give our youth a sense of safety, hope, and belonging through housing support, mentoring, drop-in centers, and street outreach. We bear the highest independent ratings for fiscal stewardship of all donations.
