Emergency Disaster Services (EDS)
Food Box Assembly
The Salvation Army is building hundreds of grocery boxes every day to be distributed to homebound individuals/families. We have designed our production line to ensure CDC suggested social distancing is taking place.
Our process: each volunteer will hang up their coats, wash their hands, receive a safety briefing and get to work. Latex gloves will be provided. All volunteers must be over 18 years old, able to stand for an extended period and lift 10-15 pounds.
*If you are not feeling well or have had exposure to a person who has symptoms of the Covid-19 Virus please stay home for the time being.*

To ensure safety for all involved, volunteers will also be asked to create an account in our National EDS database, local Metropolitan database, and complete paperwork to receive a background check. This information will be sent in a follow up email after the Volunteer Resource Manager reaches out with a phone call. The Salvation Army is making an impact every day in three key areas of critical importance and concern to people across Chicagoland -- Homelessness, Violence and Education. And, The Salvation Army is delivering the most critical services -- food, shelter, emergency assistance and disaster relief.
In communities throughout Chicago and the surrounding five-county area, we extend emergency and supportive assistance from 28 corps community centers, 80 service extension units, the Emergency Disaster Services Center, residential programs, mobile units, and several counseling sites.
