COVID-19 Collection - Personal Care/Cleaning Items
ORGANIZATION: Mercy Neighborhood Ministries
Please visit the new page to apply.
We are in need of hand sanitizer, Clorox or Lysol wipes, rubber gloves, hand soap in dispensers and face masks.
We are aware that many of these items are unavailable, especially face masks and hand sanitizer. We have learned how to make both items if we have 91% (or above) alcohol, aloe vera gel, strong paper towels, rubber bands. An additional item we could use for our home care services are quality disposable aprons to cover the front of the aide’s clothing as they work within each client’s home. They can then dispose before going to the next home. Finally, bar soap is needed for our seniors.
The products will be used by our home care aides and nurses who are providing services through our home care agency. It is critical that we take the necessary precautions to keep our home care staff healthy so that they do not pass the virus on to the seniors they care for who are most at risk for severe complications related to COVID-19. We also do not want to have any interruption in the home care services we provide due to staff illness. In addition we would like to be able to distribute them to the seniors we serve through our food pantry. Although we have discontinued pick up on site for our pantry, we are distributing prepacked bags to seniors via home delivery provided by MNM staff and volunteers. Including cleaning and sanitizing products in these bags would provide ease of mind for seniors who are anxious about becoming ill and promote them staying in their homes and not going out to purchase items they may need. Finally, we will use some of these products to protect staff at our center who are interacting with individuals coming for crisis assistance for food, and other support.
Items can be mailed or delivered Monday-Friday from 9-5, but please sign up to let us know in advance.

Description
SPONSORSHIP BY THE SISTERS OF MERCY
Sponsorship is a formal relationship between the Sisters of Mercy and an incorporated ministry for the sake of addressing our enduring concerns and witnessing to Christ's mission.
VALUESMercy Neighborhood Ministries, Inc. is committed to behaviors reflecting its core values of:
Dignity: torespect all people and their right to self-determination.
Compassion: toact with love and kindness.
Justice: toconduct ourselves with honesty, integrity and fairness.
Empowerment: to help others recognize and act upon their own inner strengths.
Service: to respond to the physical, spiritual, mental and social needs of others.
Excellence: to pursue continuous improvement.
Hospitality: to offer welcome and warmth to all.
We accomplish this through our three departments:
· Home Care Services empowers women and elderly or disabled persons living in poverty through the provision of holistic services that promote independence and dignity. We provide employment and support for women seeking self-sufficiency, and quality home health care services and wellness promotion to persons who are underserved by existing programs, especially the elderly poor.
· The Senior Services Program enhances the quality of life of the elderly who lack the necessities of life as a result of poverty or temporary distress. We do this through programs that support their independence, advocate for fair and efficient treatment, decrease their anxiety and isolation, and raise public awareness of their needs.
· The Education Services provides the tools for individuals and families to move from dependency and poverty to self-sufficiency and wholeness of living. We accomplish this by connecting our clients to available community resources and offering adult educational and literacy programs, computer job training, payee and crisis assistance, and English as a second language.
