We know mentorship sounds HUGE, but the truth is... It Takes Little to be Big.

1-in-3 kids in the US are growing up without a mentor. Mentorship is one of the most powerful tools to bridge the gap between people and possibility. When you give a little time, a listening ear, a word of advice, you help ensure that every child receives the support and resources they need to thrive.

Become a BIG (Mentor)

You don’t need to have a specific title, degree or special qualifications. You don’t have to be perfect, only present for a minimum commitment of one year.

Choose a Mentoring Program

For as little as four hours a month you could make a BIG difference.

Choose one of our three mentoring programs:

  • Community-Based
    • We match volunteers (adults at least 18+) with kids in the community who may be facing challenging circumstances. These kids can greatly benefit from a positive and supportive mentor in their life. Once "Matched," we ask that you meet 2-4 times a month. Activities can be a wide variety of things, but we encourage low-or-no cost, one-to-one activities that support positive outcomes for your Little (mentee). The minimum volunteer commitment is one year. As with all programs Bigs, Littles and parents/guardians receive on-going support from our staff to help along the way.
  • Mentor 2.0 High School-Based - Technology Assisted Mentoring
    • We match students in our partner high schools with a mentor - a personal champion to help them on their journey into adulthood. Help a student create a path to their future college and/or career. Mentors must have a college degree, or equivalent professional or military experience (Mentor2.0 opportunities available in Salt Lake & Weber County).
  • Elementary School- Based
    • In our site-based mentoring program, we match elementary school students in our partner schools with mentors (aged 14+) mentoring matches meet weekly for 60 to 90 minutes at our partner elementary schools in the afternoon (typically 3:30-4:30 PM) on a designated weekday. BBBSU staff are present to facilitate the programming and support the matches. Although the mentoring matches meet only during the academic year, we ask for a minimum 12-month program commitment from the Big (mentor) and the Little (mentee). As in all programs, mentoring is focused on youth development goals for the Little to optimize positive outcomes from the program. (Site-Based Mentoring opportunities available in Salt Lake, Davis (Centerville only), Summit and Washington County).
