The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is impacting students and families in our community. At SPEF, we are working closely with the City of Stamford and Stamford Public Schools to do all we can to support their most urgent needs.

The Stamford Public School district is providing Grab and Go Meals to anyone under the age of 18, at sites throughout the City. SPEF needs adult volunteers (18+) to hand out prepared breakfasts and lunches during the following shifts:

  • SCHOOL SITES: 9:45 am to 12:15 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and/or Fridays
  • COMMUNITY SITES: 10:45 am to 1:15 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and/or Fridays

Volunteers will need to complete an application and waiver, plus consent to a background check. Having active health insurance is a requirement of participation.

SITE INFORMATION

  • Service Schedule. The schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:45 am to 12:15 pm at school sites (10:45 am to 1:15 pm at community sites).
  • Social distancing. Social distancing protocols are in practice at every site.
    • A security guard is monitoring the line, allowing one person to enter the pickup area at a time. If the pick-up area is large enough, the guard is allowing people to enter in an orderly and spaced manner.
  • Hand sanitizing stations/Gloves. There are separate hand sanitizing stations at each site for servers/volunteers and for children/families. Gloves are provided at all sites.
  • Masks. We recently received a donation of masks and should have them available at each site. If you have your own mask, you are welcome to bring it.
  • Food Preparation. Meals are prepared and packaged by trained food service staff following all required safety precautions. SPEF volunteers do not prepare food.
  • Meal distribution. Servers/volunteers are there to ensure each person takes the appropriate number of packaged meals and keep the packages/bags organized for easy taking and counting. There is no physical contact at the pickup point.
  • Sites. A list of active school and community sites is available here: https://www.stamfordpublicschools.org/district/news/grab-and-go-meals-available
