ORGANIZATION: Beyond School Learning Center

  • Our center will be open most school days from 8:45am to 2:45pm.

    There are a number of ways in which people volunteer at a center:

    • one-on-one tutoring,

    • leading a small class or activity,

    • offering a one-time or series of workshops, and

    • providing work, volunteer or internship opportunities for our members.

  • Classes, activities, and tutoring are typically scheduled for 1 hour per week or more depending on availability and interest

  • Our volunteer workforce consists of supportive members of nearby communities, parents of our members and alumni, current and recently graduated college students, as well as federal work-study students attending nearby colleges.

Mission Statement

Beyond School provides an alternative environment to high school for teenagers. Our staff supports self-directed learning by having students make decisions about how they learn and what they learn. Our goal is to aid in the development and transition of our students into adulthood, whether they are college, vocational, or entrepreneurial bound.

Description

We offer mentoring and instruction geared towards guiding these individuals to find what their goals are and how to reach them. Students are paired with experts in areas of interest for specialized instruction, and we organize internships and apprenticeships for students in their prospective career.
