Conversation Partners is a great opportunity for any volunteer interested in engaging individuals from different countries and cultures! Volunteers help backside workers at Churchill Downs in their English language studies while also growing and developing their own Spanish-speaking skills.
Each session, volunteers and equine workers meet at the Backside Learning Center and are provided with a conversation topic for the evening. So that both participants can improve their second-language skills, the goal is that partners speak half the session in Spanish and the other half in English.

Description
The Backside Learning Center provides free educational services to the men and women who work with the thoroughberd horses in the barn area, or backside, of Churchill Downs and Trackside in Louisville, KY. Our programming includes English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL), technology workshops, citizenship tutoring, art class, and music class. All of our classes & tutoring depend on volunteers. Family Education Program focusing on afterschool homework assistance for equine workers' children,
Note: BLC hours are between 9:00 am-8:00 pm Monday thru Friday. Days, times and frequency of direct service will fall between these hours but will depend upon the work schedule and availability of students and volunteers.
