Quick Overview: If you are passionate about advocating, supporting, and promoting older adult services and programs to improve the quality of life of the older adult population and have experience as a grant writer, then consider volunteering as a Grant Writer for Purposeful Aging Los Angeles (PALA).
Organization Name: City of Los Angeles, Department of Aging, Purposeful Aging Los Angeles
Description: The Grant Writer is to research, develop, write and submit proposals, letters, reports and other materials as necessary to secure grant support from foundation, corporations and government funding sources to support Purposeful Aging Los Angeles (PALA). Must be able to meet deadlines.
Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and identify prospective funding sources through colleagues, directories, periodicals,and internet research
  • Research and initiate relationships with new prospective funders
  • Write letters of inquiry and solicitations
  • Match prospective funding sources with institutional priorities
  • Prepare and Submit Applications for Foundation, Corporate and Government Funders
  • Draft compelling grant proposal narratives for general operating and restricted project grants;assist with drafting corporate proposals as needed
  • Verify that proposals have been received and that appropriate follow‐up has occurred
  • Maintain grant calendar and track submissions and results
  • Work with Planning staff to ensure grant‐funded projects are on‐track and that obligations are fulfilled within the terms of the grant agreement
  • Submit project revisions to funders as necessary

Desired Qualifications: Must demonstrate strong presentation, communication and organizational skills. Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and Adobe Acrobat. Excellent grammar and strong research skills

The RSVP Program at L.A. Works is a federally funded program free to members, with the mission of mobilizing 55 and older volunteers for a large variety of projects with nonprofits all over Los Angeles. Founded in 1991, our mission consists of three principal pillars:

  3. EDUCATE and encourage people to engage in the broader social issues affecting the greater Los Angeles Community.
OUR IMPACT

Tens of thousands of committed volunteers together with thousands of civic, nonprofit, and business partners have enabled L.A. Works to make a significant, visible, and lasting contribution to Los Angeles.

Since 1991, L.A. Works has mobilized and led volunteers to contribute over a million hours to Los Angeles through unique volunteer programming, which has included:

  • Serving meals and preparing emergency food provisions for over 425,000 homeless and low-income individuals;
  • Providing educational and enrichment activities for over 65,000 disadvantaged youth;
  • Revitalizing schools, parks, and community centers for more than 200,000 volunteer hours;
  • Offering companionship to seniors and friendship to abused and homeless women for more than 20,000 volunteer hours;
  • Conserving, cleaning, and restoring urban and natural environments in and around Los Angeles for more than 75,000 volunteer hours;
  • Caring for animals in shelters and sanctuaries at over 1,200 volunteer projects; and
  • Training more than 900 Angelenos in the project and volunteer management.
