Developing a committee to run and operate black history celebration in Waukegan for June 20, 2020.

The project is focused on preserving and restoring the Underground Railroad station history as well as black history throughout Waukegan and Lake County, IL. The England Manor Underground Railroad Museum will serve as a historical distribution hub.

Independence Day doesn’t honor our heritage. Therefore, Juneteenth date united our ancestors Independence of freedom, which they celebrated, but was lost just like our identity, culture and history. This was the official Declaration of Independence date for the emancipated people, because they never had freedom during any other declaration date, which made this reunion a date to be solidified in our culture. This was never recognized by the confederate south because blacks were never considered free people after slavery, which the July 4 th declaration still didn’t recognize their freedom. It took the emancipation of free black people to recognize their own declaration of independence by free black people, which gave us this Independence Day. This date officially freed all the slaves completely after the south conceded to the North, which Texas lastly declared slaves as free people on Juneteenth. Juneteenth is not a Texas holiday only, but a day where all slaves were recognized as free in every state. There were many runaway slaves in Free states, whereas, they and their future generations were not free, until Juneteenth, or else they could have still been captured and taken as slaves to Texas after war.

Mission Statement

The England Manor Underground Railroad Museum highlights and preserve our African American experience using storytelling and artifacts of cultural items collected from all over the world.

Description

'The England Manor Underground Railroad Museum' will be the first black museum in history in Lake County to provide this experience to the community. So, therefore, our museum is taking on this project to preserve this cause immediately, before black history gets lost and our legacy perishes from Waukegan in Lake County. The museum will allow undiscovered black history to be collectively merged with other black history throughout the country, along with other African American museums, which are missing puzzle pieces to connect Waukegan Lake County black history, especially pertaining to the Underground Railroad hidden discoveries.
