Seeking Community Experts
Bring your expertise and passion for racial justice in civil legal aid to help grant $120,000 in funds to programs across Washington. LFW seeks community members who have worked on race equity issues and/or lived in communities impacted by poverty and racism to join a grant advisory panel.
The advisory panel is a group of community experts working together to guide the funding decisions of LFW’s Race Equity Grant program. We welcome panel members with knowledge of community needs, racial justice and/or civil legal aid programming. Applicants from all regions of Washington are encouraged to apply.
Purpose and Duties
The advisory panel is essential to the Race Equity Grant process, providing leadership and insight into the challenges facing low-income communities of color in Washington. Panel members are supported throughout the process by LFW staff and receive an orientation before beginning.
Panel members review electronic grant applications from nonprofits and score them based on funding criteria. As a group, they convene in-person to discuss the proposals and make recommendations. Final decisions for all grant awards are made by LFW’s Board of Trustees’ Grants Committee Chair.
We ask advisory panel members to commit to serving for at least two years, which includes two grant cycles annually. LFW provides a stipend of $500 per year ($750 for client-eligible panelists) and also reimburses travel expenses to in-person meetings.
Application Process and Support
You can find the Race Equity Grant Panel Member application on the LFW's website - https://legalfoundation.org/employment-opportunities/ . Please email your completed application to christal@legalfoundation.org by April 15 th, 2020.
This is a new program for LFW and we are learning as we go. We welcome questions, comments, and feedback about the panel and its application process. LFW staff are also available to assist with applications. Please let us know if you have any questions, need support or an accommodation.
