Mission Statement
The mission of Mound Fort Junior High School is to provide an encouraging and safe learning environment to empower students to achieve their goals and reach their potential. Many students at the junior high level no longer have the opportunity to receive explicit instruction to fill the gaps in their reading skills, and as many students learn to compensate for this missing critical skill by exhibiting inappropriate behaviors in classroom settings. The goal of this endeavor is to recruit and train volunteers to deliver efficient and effective reading instruction to Mound Fort's most at-risk readers in a 1-1 setting.
Description
Mound Fort Junior High, the University of Utah Reading Clinic, Ogden City School District, and the United Way of Northern Utah have developed a collaborative partnership to provide evidence-based 1-1 reading interventions to struggling students. Data collected from the past 9 years show an average of at least 1 year's growth over 40, 45-minute high intensity reading sessions.
